Institute and Neighborhood Groups Meet.
Chronology
Closed Meetings Continue...

On December 13, the Audubon Nature Institute held another closed meeting to discuss Audubon Park issues to which only the heads of the adjoining neighborhood groups were invited. Save Audubon Park sent a letter of protest to Ron Forman regarding the closed nature of this meeting, just as we complained about similar meetings held on September 19 and October 18. Despite the fact that the meeting agenda included the golf course and clubhouse, as well as other issues of interest to all park users, the general public was excluded yet again from the discussion. No meetings for the general public have been scheduled or announced for the near future.

Liability Red Herring

Supposedly, Mitch Landrieu and John Hainkel are looking into ways to absolve the ANI from liability so that the Hurst Walk can be open all the time, instead of merely until golfers start playing in the morning-- when it is essentially "not open", of course. Since no one was ever hit by a golf ball in 100 years of coexistence of the Hurst Walk and the old golf course, we reiterate our request that the golf course design should be adjusted so that liability does not become a convenient excuse for the loss of this public right-of-way.
